BOTULINUM TOXIN
Botulinum Toxin
Botox and its trademarked variants are all versions of Botulinum Toxin, which is isolated from bacteria and then administered in very low doses to reduce the contractions of wrinkle-causing muscles on your forehead, between your eyebrows, & around your eyes. These are the muscles that develop static contractions which cause you to look perpetually worried or angry. Botox generally struggles to resolve static wrinkles such as “marionette”, “bunny”, or “smokers” lines and the platysmal bands that cause “turkey” neck but it is excellent for dynamic wrinkles. As such it helps to prophylactically get botox starting in the late 20s to forestall the onset of harder to treat static wrinkles before they develop later in life. Botox can also relieve excess sweating in the armpits.
What Is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription injectable treatment derived from a purified form of the botulinum toxin protein. Used to soften dynamic facial lines, it works by temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles that cause wrinkles and expression lines—most commonly frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases.
First approved by the FDA on April 15, 2002, for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines in adults, BOTOX® Cosmetic was the first of its kind to receive such clearance. Today, it remains the only FDA-approved product to improve the appearance of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults. With over 13 million vials sold in the U.S. and approval in 98 countries, it’s the world’s leading aesthetic injectable.
How Does BOTOX® Work?
Facial wrinkles develop from repetitive muscle contractions—like frowning, squinting, or raising your brows. BOTOX® Cosmetic targets these underlying muscle movements by blocking the nerve signals that cause them to contract. The result is a temporary reduction in muscle activity, allowing the overlying skin to appear smoother and more refreshed.
When Will I See Results?
Most patients notice visible smoothing of lines within 24 to 48 hours, with full results typically seen by day 7. Results can last up to four months, depending on the individual and area treated.
Will I Look Unnatural?
Not at all. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. When administered by a skilled, licensed medical professional with deep knowledge of facial anatomy, the results are natural and subtle—you’ll look like yourself, just with fewer lines. At the Medi Spa at Ridgewood Hill, all injectors are highly trained and experienced, ensuring safe, precise, and beautifully balanced results.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
Treatment is quick and well-tolerated. Most clients describe the sensation as a brief pinprick. We typically apply a cold compress beforehand to minimize any discomfort and reduce the risk of bruising. The entire procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes.
Is There Any Downtime?
Recovery is minimal. You may experience slight redness, swelling, or minor bruising at the injection sites, which generally resolves within a few hours. Most patients return to their regular activities right away.
Is There a Generic Version of BOTOX®?
No. BOTOX® Cosmetic has a unique formulation that sets it apart. It is also the most extensively researched product of its kind, with over 15 years of clinical data and 495 peer-reviewed articles supporting its safety and effectiveness.
Do Men Use BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Absolutely. Cosmetic treatments among men have increased by 325% over the past two decades. In recent years, over one million botulinum toxin treatments have been performed on men annually. Surveys show that men are particularly interested in softening crow’s feet (80%), forehead lines (74%), and frown lines (60%) to maintain a youthful, confident appearance.
Are There Any Side Effects?
As with any medical procedure, side effects are possible but typically mild and temporary. In clinical trials:
3% of patients experienced eyelid drooping (frown lines)
1% experienced eyelid swelling (crow’s feet)
1% experienced brow drooping (forehead lines)
- Other potential side effects may include:
• Headache
• Neck pain
• Injection site discomfort
• Dry mouth
• Fatigue
• Eye symptoms (e.g., blurred vision, double vision, dry eyes)
• Allergic reactions

GLP AGONISTS
GLP Agonists
GLP-1 medications like semaglutide (Wegovy®, Ozempic®) and liraglutide (Saxenda®) are synthetic versions of a natural gut hormone that help regulate appetite, blood sugar, and digestion. When administered in low doses via injection, they signal fullness to the brain, slow stomach emptying, and reduce cravings—leading to significant, sustainable weight loss. GLP-1s are particularly effective for individuals who struggle with hunger-driven weight gain or metabolic slowdown. While not a replacement for healthy habits, they serve as a powerful adjunct to diet and lifestyle changes. Starting GLP-1 therapy early in a structured program can help prevent long-term complications of obesity and support lasting weight control.
What Is GLP-1 for Weight Loss?
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are a class of prescription medications originally developed to manage type 2 diabetes. More recently, they have gained FDA approval and widespread use for weight loss and long-term weight management in individuals with obesity or those who are overweight with weight-related health conditions.
Common GLP-1 medications used for weight loss include semaglutide (Wegovy®, Ozempic®) and liraglutide (Saxenda®). These medications work by mimicking a natural hormone in your body that helps regulate blood sugar, slows digestion, and reduces appetite—helping you feel fuller, longer.
How Does It Work?
GLP-1 medications help with weight loss through several mechanisms:
Suppressing appetite: By acting on appetite centers in the brain, these medications help reduce cravings and promote a sense of fullness.
Slowing gastric emptying: They delay how quickly food leaves your stomach, which helps control hunger and leads to smaller portion sizes.
Improving insulin sensitivity: They help the body use insulin more effectively, which can support metabolic health and fat loss.
When combined with a healthy diet and increased physical activity, GLP-1 medications have been shown to result in significant and sustained weight loss.
When Will I See Results?
Most patients begin noticing a reduction in appetite within the first week or two. Meaningful weight loss typically occurs over several weeks to months, with full results visible by 3 to 6 months, depending on the dosage and adherence to a weight management program.
Clinical trials have shown average weight loss of 15% or more of total body weight over the course of a year with consistent use and lifestyle changes.
Will I Still Need to Diet and Exercise?
Yes. GLP-1 medications are not a substitute for healthy habits, but they are a powerful tool to support your efforts. These medications work best when combined with a nutritionally balanced diet, regular physical activity, and behavior modifications. Think of them as a jumpstart—or accelerator—on your long-term wellness journey.
What Can I Expect During Treatment?
Treatment begins with a gradual dose escalation to minimize side effects and allow your body to adjust. Injections are typically given once weekly (for semaglutide) or once daily (for liraglutide) using a simple, pen-like device. Most patients find the injection process quick and nearly painless.
Is There Any Downtime or Recovery?
There’s no downtime—you can resume your normal routine immediately. Mild side effects may occur as your body adjusts, particularly during the early stages of treatment.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Common side effects are usually gastrointestinal and may include:
Nausea or upset stomach
Constipation or diarrhea
Bloating or gas
Fatigue or headaches (less common)
These symptoms often subside over time. Your provider will work with you to manage any side effects and adjust the dosage if needed.
Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder issues, or thyroid tumors, so it’s important to share your full medical history with your provider.
Is GLP-1 Right for Me?
GLP-1 medications may be appropriate if you:
Have a BMI ≥30 or BMI ≥27 with weight-related conditions like high blood pressure, prediabetes, or sleep apnea
Have struggled with long-term weight loss through diet and exercise alone
Are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant while on treatment
Do not have a history of certain medical conditions like medullary thyroid cancer or pancreatitis
